A Sleepover at the President’s House

Danielle, a first-year student, is a Passion for Action Scholar. She was invited to spend a night at President Jackie Jenkins-Scott’s home along with the other Passion for Action Scholars. In this post she shares her experience at the President’s home.

PFA Sleepover with President JackieComing to Wheelock as a Passion for Action Scholar, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. I knew that it would mean extra work, more meetings, and lots of volunteering, but I had no idea what form these commitments would take on. Now, three months into my first semester, I am beginning to see exactly what it means to be part of this wonderful program and school. However, Wheelock is full of surprises and endless opportunities. Even so, I couldn’t help but be awe struck when I found out that I would be sleeping over President Jackie Jenkins-Scott’s house.

After the initial shock, I was left with pure excitement. I was joined by my fellow Passion for Action students for a fun-filled Friday night. Following our delicious dinner of Chinese food, we had an engaging and passionate talk with the President about what leadership meant to us and how we see it in our everyday lives. As my peers shared their experiences with me, I could not help but feel a strong bond with them. Wheelock students have a desire to lead and inspire that is incomparable to any other. We love what we do and we allow that passion to push us to attain unimaginable goals. All this became quite apparent as I looked to my left and to my right at President Jenkins-Scott’s dinner table.

It was time for cookies after clearing our plates off the table. And of course- they were delicious. President Jenkins-Scott was fully prepared for our sleepover and left us downstairs with the TV on and ample bags of PFA Sleepover 1chips! For the rest of the night we were able to bond as a group and get to know each other a bit more. When it was time for bed, we set up our stuff in  President Jenkins-Scott’s living rooms (yes, she has two). Some girls slept on the floor, however, I chose the more comfortable option, and took my blanket to the couch.

I’m not sure how many college students can say they slept over their President’s house but it was surely an experience that I will never forget.
