Dancing for Boston Children’s Hospital

Caelin Mooney, a junior majoring in Psychology and Human Development and Child Life, discusses her favorite on-campus event she has attended: Wheelock’s Dance Marathon.

The Dance Marathon is a nationally recognized event. Schools all take on their own personality for these events and they benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. Our Dance Marathon was organized by the Wheelock Child Life Organization (WCLO). I am a member of WCLO and helped organize our Dance Marathon. Students stood on their feet and danced for six consecutive hours to raise money for Boston Children’s Hospital. It took a lot of time and energy to plan this event and we worked so hard to make it a success. Andrea and Caelin Dance Marathon

During the six hours, we held many raffles, sales, and received donations from many local organizations. UNO’s Pizza donated enough pizza to feed the entire campus! We had two families who came and shared their stories about how they have benefited from the Children’s Miracle Network. Everyone loved talking with the families and hearing how we were going to help them. The kids joined in with the students and danced, ate pizza, and had plenty of laughs. It was such an amazing way to see how Wheelock students are great at working with children and how we made them feel right at home in this new environment.

At the end of the event we learned we had raised over $4,000! It was such a great feeling to know that our Wheelock community could make a huge difference in these families’ lives. Our Dance Marathon won “Event of the Year” during the Leadership Banquet at Wheelock, showing that we weren’t the only ones who truly enjoyed and were inspired by this event.
