I chose Wheelock because of the mission statement: “Are you tough enough to inspire a world of good?”

When looking at different colleges, this statement really stuck with me. I want to change the lives of the children I teach in a positive way. I think Wheelock is the best school to go to with that mindset if you really want to have a positive impact on children’s lives. I have always been passionate about working with children. I got my babysitting certification the second I was able to. As soon as I could, I started working at a daycare back home. I have always wanted to work with young children. My parents and other people have told me how good I am with kids and how the kids somehow gravitate towards me. This is why I want to be an early childhood educator.

My favorite aspect of Wheelock is how it is significantly more diverse it is than my home town. It has helped me to see things through other perspectives and has changed my viewpoints of many issues.I would tell a new student to be open to the fact that the person you are on the first day of freshman year may not be the same person you are on the last day of freshman year, but it’s okay. The first friends you make at Wheelock might not be the people you are still friends with on the last day of freshman year, but that’s okay too.
