“Everything I use in my day-to-day teaching, came from some little something I learned at Wheelock.”
Ruth Lizotte is proof that not only will your Wheelock education serve you well all through your career – as hers did in the 3rd-8th grade classroom – it can lead to tremendous opportunities afterward. In Ruth’s case, her education and a fulfilling career led her somewhere she never expected. A chance encounter with an administrator led her to Costa Rica, where she served as a lead teacher for a brand new school (now the only boarding school in Central America). At Country Day School-Costa Rica, she was able to build a school curriculum and community from the ground up, incorporating many lessons she’d learned through her career in new ways.
Over Ruth’s career, she’s had the opportunity to teach students of all ages, cultural backgrounds, and walks of life. She’s found that her time at Wheelock helped her at every turn: US or Costa Rica, young students or old. “Wheelock’s philosophy fit for every [situation]- it’s teaching adults, teaching kids, it doesn’t matter. Everything I use in my day-to-day teaching, came from some little something I learned at Wheelock. It’s in my soul.”
