Diversity & Inclusion E-News: Institutional Updates – Week of 2.6.17

College Action on Immigration Ban

President Dr. David Chard, Dean of Student Success Mary McCormick and Julie Bolduc DeFilippo, Senior Director of Gov’t & External Affairs and Community Impact, represented Wheelock at a meeting on February 1st called by Boston Mayor Martin Walsh of Boston area colleges and universities. Wheelock voiced it’s strong support for MA Attorney General Maura Healy’s action in joining the ACLU lawsuit to block extension of the travel ban ordered by President Trump. We will join with our counterparts at higher education institutions across Boston in a unified voice to support any further legal action in the future.

Area of Refuge Signs

There has been a number of AREA OF REFUGE signs strategically placed throughout our campus in a joint effort put forth by Disabilities Services, Public Safety, Residence Life and Facilities. These signs are the product of the early stages of a comprehensive program to address our need to identify appropriate locations and post signage campus wide. The signs designate stand-by or staging areas for individuals and service animals in the event that they require assistance to evacuate a given area or building. Emergency First Responders will be immediately directed to these areas when they are expected to be occupied by a previously identified person of special abilities who may require assistance to leave.  Should you have any questions or suggestions for additional appropriate areas please direct your communications to Jennifer Pike, Scott Kohen, Jimmy Kambutu or Charlie Noyes.
