Passion for Action Scholarship Program Celebrates Service and Scholarship

{0 Comments}

Wheelock’s Passion for Action Scholarship Program is the largest scholarship program at the College. These four-year scholarships are given to Greater Boston-area students who, as high school students, have already demonstrated a compelling commitment to community service. Outstanding recipients include Zachary Kerr ’17, an activist for transgender rights, and Karen Morales ’17, who helped rebuild houses in New Orleans and worked with school children in West Africa. Since its inception in 2007, 35 students have benefited from this program.

A Legacy of Service

For more than 125 years, Wheelock College has been known as an institution with an important public mission: to improve the lives of children and families. Founded by pioneering educator Lucy Wheelock, Wheelock College offers nationally and internationally recognized undergraduate and graduate programs to educate and inspire future social justice advocates-teachers, social workers, and juvenile justice and child life practitioners-to respond to the needs of children and families in the diverse communities in which they live, whether here or abroad. Wheelock students engage in service learning and field practice and gain multicultural perspectives which further enhance their academic and life preparation.

Leadership Awards Dinner
