WATCH: Social Work Faculty and Programs at Wheelock College

Are you considering earning your BSW or MSW in Social Work? Wheelock College’s Social Work undergraduate and graduate degree programs focus on strengths-based practice, giving students the knowledge and skills needed to enter or advance in a career that improves the lives of both children and families – the core mission at Wheelock College.

Meet Debby Lisansky Beck, Assistant Professor and Chair of the Bachelor’s of Social Work program at Wheelock College! Debby has been a Wheelock faculty member since 1991, and has taught primarily in the Bachelor’s of Social Work program, with additional experience in the departments of Human Development and Professional Studies.

Meet Dr. Hope Straughan, Associate Dean of Social Work and Associate Professor of Social Work at Wheelock College.  She has been teaching social work at Wheelock College since 2000.  Before teaching at Wheelock College, she taught sociology and psychology, and helped launch a Christian social ministries program.

Wheelock grad Sara Hosmer, 94BSW, came to Wheelock because of its mission to improve the lives of children and families. “I came here really interested in community development,” she says. She says the close-knit campus allowed her to really get to know and become friendly with other students in her major and in the social work profession generally.

“Your degree may take you in 100 different directions, but there’s always that core commitment. I loved my Wheelock experience — you’ll make lifelong friends and have professors who care about you. You’ll come into your own and figure out who you are and you’ll work with kids and families to make things better. It’s a great place to be.”
