Women's Basketball Hosts Westwood 8th Graders for a Free Clinic

On January 14th, the Wheelock College women’s basketball team ran a free clinic for the local 8th grade girls’ basketball team from Westwood. Westwood’s head coach Allen Hamdan described the experience, “Every bit of it was great. For 13 and 14 year olds who are very serious basketball players to get to be on the court with a college team and an amazing coach was exciting.”

The Wildcats, led by head coach Missy Traversi, ran a 90-minute joint practice that focused on skill development and fast break transition basketball. Hamdan said that, “My girls especially loved the drill where the assistant coach created contact with a pad while they drove for a lay-up.”

Still, the best part of the clinic for all involved was the camaraderie. Hamdan talked about how, “the most fun thing for them was when the Wheelock players not only knew their names but were cheering them on during the drills. They were nervous at first but soon felt like part of the team because everyone was so gracious and welcoming.”

Wheelock is currently off to the best start to a season in program-history with a 12-3 overall record and 8-1 mark in the New England Collegiate Conference. See their schedule for upcoming opportunities to show your support!
